Northview Bank Lends in Pine County
With two sprawling state forests, the St Croix State Park, and wild rivers, Pine County is vintage Minnesota. The beautiful and wild St Croix State Forest features 42,000 acres of unspoiled woodlands bordering the St Croix River. The St Croix State Forest also features the wild and scenic Tamarack River.
St Croix State Park features 34,000 acres of wilderness along the St Croix and Kettle Rivers. The state park offers camping, birding, photography, trails, and excellent canoeing.
The 96,000 acre Nemadji State Forest offers gently rolling upland forests and large swamps. The forest holds 121 miles of trails dedicated to ATV and snowmobile use along with 32 miles of horse/hiking/mountain biking trails. The trail connects with the Willard Munger State Trail, St Croix State Forest Trails, and Gandy Dancer Trail.
Pine County is home to many rural communities like Askov, Brook Park, Bruno, Denham, Finlayson (home of Northview Bank), Henriette, Kerrick, Rock Creek, Rutledge, Sandstone (the inspiration behind Twin Cities bluegrass band Pert Near Sandstone), Sturgeon Lake, and Willow River.
Hinckley (famously the halfway point between Minneapolis and Duluth) is a Minnesota legend with Tobie’s Restaurant, home of the world’s greatest cinnamon rolls. There’s also Grand Casino Hinckley, a full-featured casino with an RV park, golf course, spa, music venue, and restaurants. Pine City boasts the North West Company Fur Post, a fantastic museum well worth a stop to teach kids about Minnesota’s voyageur era.
Pine County is also home to a number of good fishing lakes. A fertile basin lake managed for walleye and musky, Cross Lake is 925 acres with a 30 foot maximum depth. Cross offers good populations of musky, northern pike, walleye, and channel catfish.
Grindstone Lake is a 530 acre lake that plunges to over 150 feet deep and features exceptional water clarity. Unique in the area it supports rainbow, brown, and lake trout as well as the traditional Minnesota gamefish.
Pokegama Lake is a shallow 1,500 acre lake near Pine City. It gets moderate fishing pressure and has a very good channel catfish population.
Sturgeon Lake is a scenic 1,700 acre fishery with a 40 foot maximum depth and 12 foot water clarity. If you’re looking to tangle with walleye, northern pike, crappies, or largemouth bass, this lake is a good bet.
Pine County is also home to Bass Lake, Big Pine Lake, Fish Lake, Fox Lake, Island Lake, Oak Lake, Sand Lake, and Upper Pine Lake.
